In 2026, Old Wethersfield is proud to stand at the heart of America250, the nationwide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
As the largest and oldest historic district in Connecticut, Old Wethersfield will be in the spotlight throughout this milestone year, recognized for its deep and enduring connections to our nation’s history. From colonial roots to revolutionary ideals, our town has long played a role in shaping the American story—and in 2026, we invite the community to help bring that story to life.
Signature Events with Special Meaning
Two of Old Wethersfield’s most beloved traditions—Bicycles Along Main and Scarecrows Along Main, will be proudly tied to America250 in 2026.
These events will serve as creative, community-wide celebrations of our shared past, present, and future, offering residents, businesses, and organizations an opportunity to reflect on what America’s 250th anniversary means to them.
We know a great deal of time, thought, and creativity goes into designing these displays. That’s why we’re sharing this information early—to give ideas time to spark, take shape, and grow.
Partnering with America250 CT
In 2026, both Bicycles Along Main and Scarecrows Along Main will partner with America250 CT, encouraging participants to design displays inspired by Connecticut’s four official America250 themes:
